Kids these days are really fortunate. There are so many interesting workshops available for them to explore and learn new things. Luckily for us parents, we can still tag along for some of them!
Today, we had the opportunity to join Just Fly It‘s parent-child chuck glider workshop. The workshop not only introduces the application of STEM principles in aeromodelling and boosts family bonding in the process as well.
First of all, the instructor shared with us on the theory and principles behind building a glider.
With the guidance of our instructor, we tried our hands at building one!
with just three planks, we can make our glider!
designing the wing
learning to use the pen knife
sandpapering duty for the lil’ dragonlady
Tip to share: do take extra care when you’re working on the tail area cos the wood is very thin – we broke both tails while trying to put the horizontal stabilizer in.
And when it’s done, we brought them out to fly!
The kids had a friendly competition at the end of the session to see how well each of their gliders can well..glide!
And guess what? The cub and the lil’ dragonlady’s gliders won first and second places respectively!
Love how we all got to 学以致用 and had fun in the outdoors enjoying the fruits of our labour!
Just Fly It will be having similar workshops during the next school holiday – do check out their Facebook page for updates.
