Has it been 10 years since Quidam? I vividly remember how the Husb and I were utterly impressed with our first Cirque Du Soleil performance – couldn’t stop wow-ing and clapping.
When the Husb and I heard that best circus is heading to town again, we knew it was not to be missed. Thanks to Base Entertainment, we got to watch Totem’s opening night show just before he left on a long work trip.
“TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations. Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species.”
I gotta say, the stage was almost as impressive as the performers this time. The bridge of the stage was constantly surprising us with its mobility and versatility.
Yes, this is part of the stage!
It’s a prow of the boat in one act, a plane in another, and performers can go in and come out of it! It can even CURL. I had to go read up on what the stage is capable of after watching the show because I was SO AMAZED!
“The concept of the scorpion bridge was loosely based on a retractable pedestrian bridge in London. Built of steel and weighing 10,000 lbs, its eight powerful mineral oil hydraulic motors allow it to rise, descend, extend, retract and curl in on itself like a scorpion’s tail. Its reflective surfaces, which shine like mirrors, are made of stainless steel plates. The base of the bridge houses lighting equipment, a laser, speakers and cameras. During the show, the bridge is monitored by an operator using four infrared cameras.”
The acrobatic acts are usually the stars of the Cirque Du Soleil shows but I thought the clowns from Totem stole the show! They were hilariously entertaining.
Especially Valentino, who just might have stolen a few kisses from the audience too!
Nothing short of what you would expect from Cirque Du Soleil, the acts were all spectacular and you really gotta see it for yourself to be wowed. Here are some highlights:
Hottie Alert : Rings Trio act
Need I say more?
Hottie Alert : Trapeze Duo act
Figured you guys need a closer look!
The Russian Bar act was amazing.
I have no idea how they make leaping off bouncy bars look so effortless!
Juggling act at one of its best – Unicycles with Bowls.
The performers have to constantly ride their unicycles while throwing or catching the bowls AND balancing them on their heads!
My favourite has got to be the Roller Skates act. I find it most pleasing to watch with overwhelming chemistry from both performers and beautiful costumes.
Within such a small space (just 1.8m in diameter!), they were able to deliver perfection in their heart-stopping speedy performance.
Don’t miss Totem Under the (blue-and-yellow) Big Top, next to Marina Bay Sands! The show runs from 28 October – 6 December 2016. Get your tickets here!
