This is embarrassing to share, but a milestone nonetheless.
I didn’t really have the need to learn how to cook all these years because my grandma’s in charge of the kitchen. (Even my folks hardly cooked!) When I do try to cook, I turn the kitchen into a war zone and my poor helper has to deal with the painful task of cleaning up after me.
In the 16 years we have been together, I don’t think I have cooked a proper meal for him or for the kids. Don’t worry, the husband knew of my culinary skills (or the lack thereof) before we got married. When we do want a home-cooked meal, it’s always the husband who takes charge of getting the ingredients and cooking up a storm for us.
So when this happened last week, I believe 我让他大跌眼镜.
I’m glad to report that the husb loved the food because these are some of his favourites. He finished the whole pot of soup! The carrots were incredibly soft after being simmered for more than hour (while waiting for the husb to return home). I was really happy to see how pleased the husband is coming home to a very simple meal. I’m definitely earning some credentials to be a homemaker here!
The kids, on the other hand, needed more convincing to finish up the food. The lil’ dragonlady went, “Mommy, not nice!” when she first tasted the soup. The littlest one is definitely the harsher of my two. But she was right – it was truly a tad bland so I threw in some light soy sauce after getting her feedback. The salmon was a little too wet too. Will do better next time!
