The cub and I travelled into the far far west (we stay in the north-east region!) to check out a new learning center, Eye Level at Jurong West on Saturday.
To be honest, I haven’t heard about Eye Level all this time until they approached me to learn more about what they have to offer. I was baffled by the name “Eye Level” but what I found out from the site about its definition got me interested to find out more about them:
An Eye Level education starts with seeing things from students’ eye level.
This is a story about a teacher who lowered his height. A man was appreciating the art at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. As he approached each painting he would kneel down and look up at it. A curious visitor asked him why he was looking at the paintings from his knees. He replied, “I am an elementary school teacher and I will bring my students here tomorrow. I was wondering how my students would enjoy the paintings from a student’s eye level.”
“Eye Level is based on an educational principle where students learn at their own pace. When a teacher understands the learning needs of a student, the teaching are most effective.”
Eye Level is not exactly new in the market (previously known as Enopi) and has a number of branches across the island. It’s this Jurong West center that is spanking new!
The purpose of our visit to the center was really for the cub to try out the diagnostic test by Eye Level. Based on the results of the test, the teacher will be able to tell which level is the child at and guide them from there. I wasn’t expecting much since I hardly do any proper learning activities with him at home. Hence, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the cub understands and knows much more that I had thought!
Personally, the cub and I like the illustrations and how colorful the learning worksheets are. Definitely helps with getting a child to enjoy working on them more!
I like that at Eye Level, the lessons are planned entirely based on the kid’s progress and ultimately guiding them towards self-directed learning.
