I lament time flies when it comes to watching my kids grow up. But when it comes to solo parenting, I always wish time to fly at supersonic speed so that my extra pair of hands can return soon. Parents who have not much help or who have to do solo parenting most of the time, you have my deep-deep respect. It’s physically and mentally exhausting!
It’s the longest work trip for the year as the husb goes to Denmark for a 2-weeks course. I’m so glad we are nearing the end of it. But as much as I grumble about the downsides of solo parenting, there are some bits of solo parenting that I do enjoy getting to see.
It’s funny how they know they can get away with sleeping together on my bed when their Dad is away.
So when Daddy is away, I get to snuggle with both kids, sing some silly songs together before I tell them to go to bed.
I don’t get the bedtime jokes though. Every single thing that they do becomes 10x funnier as they amuse each other to no end. It can be very endearing to watch how both of them laugh non-stop and play with each other, but just as annoying when I’m trying to create a sleepy mood in the room!
The cub now knows how to play a dutiful bigbro role. He would bring me a fresh diaper for his lilsis to change, pat his lilsis to sleep and tell me no need to pat him! So I do get an extra pair of hands at times, albeit a smaller but so much cuter pair.
It’s so precious to see how genuinely happy and contented they are from simple things like following me around the room, sometimes jumping ON me and making me piggy-back them, or just wanting to hold my hands or lie beside me as they drift off to sleep. If the husb is around, I’d probably have missed out on all these and leave it up to him to accompany the kids to bed while I get some of my stuff done.
The cub has more or less gotten used to sleeping on his own bed. But whenever the husb is away, I would get him to sleep with me on my bed so that I don’t feel lonely. Ha! Sometimes he rolls back to his bed and I would drag him back.
Got a message from the husb while drafting this post – he’s going to come back early!
Time to kick the son back to his bed! 😉
