I’m having mixed feelings about my impending return to work next month. YES, NEXT MONTH!! Obviously I will miss being around for my babies, but I’m kinda looking forward to having time to be me. Gosh, the mommy guilt is so going to kill me when I go back to work. Hope my efforts to alleviate the guilt will help me ease into my role as a FTWM again.
I’m glad to report that I’ve spent mostly quality time with my babies during the past weeks of me being a temporary SAHM. Honest! I think I’ve cut down much time spent on the com and TV because of them. Not complaining, of course.
The kids spent the bulk of their day with Mommy here as my parents go back to work more often since I’m at home. It’s quite crazy looking after two babies who EACH requires so much attention. I know I made it worse for myself because I do not let the maid handle baby stuff except for their laundry. I’m a supermom-wannabe, I guess!
I fondly remember how challenging it was to have Thaddeus take his naps during his first year. (Yea, now can say fondly..then, I wanted to throw my son out of the balcony!) Those times were known as nap battles. Now I quite like the process of getting Thaddeus to sleep. Sometimes we will sing together, sometimes we will wrestle each other a bit, sometimes we will do silly stuff and laugh our heads off, then he’ll settle and doze off. I love these moments! I hope he can remember such fun times with Mommy too.
Teanne is not an easy bub. She too makes it hard for me when it comes to sleep but I’m managing and being patient about it. The nap battles with Thaddeus had trained me up well. It helps when I remind myself that this is probably the last time I’m going through this phase and should cherish it while it lasts!
Talk about making effort. We even managed to bring our babies to the movies!
Their first movie experience was Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Teanne and I had sneaked out during our confinement to catch this movie. It went pretty well as both kids slept through most of the movie and we got to watch the show. Thaddeus fell asleep pretty soon after the movie started. Hurhurhur.
Second try was for Ice Age 4 and we only brought Thaddeus. This time round, he stayed awake and was quite fascinated by the experience. However, he’s still too young and his attention span is too short. Halfway through the movie, he started fussing. He was also getting sleepy, thus cranky. We failed to make him sleep during the movie this time round. In the end, the husb had to carry him in and out of the theatre while I watched the movie by myself. Sigh!
I had planned to bring Thaddeus for some enrichment classes after my confinement ended. It was scary to learn that these classes are not only expensive, but hard to get as well! The waiting lists for weekend classes are horrendously LONG! After some scouring and comparison of schedules, I managed to put Thaddeus into Playclub with Julia Gabriel’s on weekday afternoon classes. The current term will end some time around the end of my maternity leave, which works well for us.
The classes are fantastic opportunities for me to bond further with my baby. We learn songs together and I get to pick up some tips on how to teach my kids. It makes me smile whenever I see Thaddeus remembering what he has learned from these classes. He’s really enjoying his time at class now, which is awesome considering how I had to drag him into the classroom initially. Pity we can’t continue beyond this term because nobody else can bring him for classes and sing/dance along with him. *mommy guilt*
During this time, I am most pleased I got Thaddeus’ childcare arrangements settled! We will be sending him to a Centre that’s barely a bus stop away. Previously, we had them as our second choice because the place and furniture looked rather old. But I went down for a second look after getting their call to check if we are still keen to send our cub to their Centre, and was pleasantly surprised to find out they had done some renovation works and changed their furniture some months ago!
The proximity was their biggest pull factor for us. My family could send and fetch Thaddeus from school if the husb and I are unavailable. Thaddeus will not have to wake up early just to go to school and can come back earlier too if any of my famiy members can pick him up when they are on the way home. Best!
Now, to plan more outings with our babies before I return to work in a few weeks’ time!
