Had an epic mumsy weekend, even before M&M is out.
My folks and Matt’s parents are away for the weekend, so my aunt came by to help them look after Matt. We had the husb’s birthday celebration on Friday which ended late. Came back around 1am to find Matt still awake, and he decided he wanted to sleep with us instead. Thankfully, it didn’t take too long for him to fall asleep with us after we switched off all the lights because we were so tired out after a long day. We thought that went quite well!
The next morning, he woke up quite early at 8ish and asked for his milk as usual. I made him his milk and he drank barely 10% of it before starting to cough and said, “I got phelgm”. I thought he was trying to be funny so I told him to finish off the milk. Next thing I knew, he puked dinner from last night onto my bed. He was going to cry when I told him it’s okay and I’m sorry for not taking him seriously. The helper came to change our sheets and all while we cleaned Matt up. He lost appetite right after and only wanted water. After cleaning up, he puked water he drank earlier. I went downstairs to find out from my aunt and grandma what Matt ate the night before but they said just the usual rice so we had no clue what caused this. The third round of vomiting came soon after and we knew something must be wrong.
Times like these make me very grateful we have a helper. If we had to deal with a sick kid and clean up after every puking episode, the husb and I would be two extremely frustrated people.
Then, his runny nose gave me a scare when the mucus had blood traces! This was way too much drama for an early Saturday morning. I got the registration number from Matt’s mum and prepared the kiddo to go see doc. The poor kid was entertaining himself with his toys while waiting for the husb to fetch us, and just laid on the floor as and when he felt weak. Sayang mann..
It was such a long wait at the clinic’s! At 12pm (and they close at 12.30pm), there were still 11 patients in front of us and the nurse told us it may take up to 2 hours for waiting time. We don’t have much of a choice but to wait, so we went ahead to register him. Not sure if it’s a good thing but Matt was rather familiar with the SOPs – taking of weight, taking of temperature, etc, and went to the clinic assistant quite happily to do all these.
Instead of staying in the clinic which would bore all three of us terribly, we went to do some grocery shopping at NTUC before returning to the clinic. It’s obvious when Matt is not feeling well as he sat in the trolley obediently throughout. We got to see the paed soon after we returned to the clinic. It helps that Matt can more or less answer the doc’s questions on where he feels unwell and was on his best behaviour as the doc gave him a check. The doc said it is most probably something viral and gave him a medication (through the buttock) for his vomitting, freezer pops to replenish electrolytes and a medication for stomachache.
As for the blood traces, it was due to Matt’s own doing. He had scratched the inside of his nostril and the blood came out along with the mucus.
The whole experience sure made me felt like a pregnant-with-#2 mom bringing my #1 to the doc’s. Everyone at the clinic thought so too as the nurses and doctor asked when is my #2 due. Ha! I do look quite experienced, I guess. 🙂
We returned home and gave Matt his medication. The husb accidentally fell asleep soon after lying in bed to rest and I had to bathe Matt myself. That was fine but the clearing up of his poo was what I wanted to avoid but couldn’t. Oh wells. I managed to coax Matt to nap without much fuss because he was just as tired as the both of us and all three of us had an epic nap of 3 hours! It was quite hilarious when both the husb and I woke up and started BBM-ing each other on the same bed because we didn’t want to wake him up unnecessarily.
We had dinner plans with the husb’s family since his aunt was in town, and brought Matt along because I didn’t want him to be fed with things I don’t know about. It took him a long while to warm up which was unusual cos he can be very talkative with the husb’s family having traveled with them before.
When we got home around 11ish, he wanted to play with my aunt and even said okay to sleeping with my aunt instead of us. Not that we mind since it meant we will be able to sleep better, but I knew he would “chut pattern” and just worry that he’ll come look for us when we are already sleeping. In the end, it was just as what I expected but luckily, before we turned in. I heard his cries from my room and went over to check on them. Matt had changed his mind and decided that he was afraid of my aunt and cried really hard. I knew it! So he came to 姑妈 and the three of us squeezed in bed again.
I realized Matt’s sleeping pattern is really similar to mine! He likes to shove others in bed to get more space (even when he’s so small!), makes little noises and grinds his teeth, just like me! The husb thinks we’re very noisy to sleep together with. Hee!
Sunday. We repeated his usual routine and monitored if he still has nausea and stomach pain. It took much more effort to put him down for a nap today because he kept wanting to play. I guess that meant that he’s better but we just wanted to play safe and make sure he sticks to his routine to get sufficient rest as well. From the looks of it now, he has more or less recovered. Yay!
This had been a rather succesful trial run and physically exhausting experience for us. 🙂
Husb: if these two days already so tiring, the first month when M&M arrives is going to be very siong.
Me: well, M&M is not going to be crying only in the first month. You know that, right?
